Religion and Culture in Clinical Psychology

Abstract

In this article, the reader will gain insight into some of the pioneering models of Islamic psychology in our time. These models all aim to provide a psychological practice that does not conflict with the religion and culture of Muslims, in accordance with the Islamic theory of knowledge which derives its origins and guidance from Islamic teachings. The researcher calls for the increased establishment of Islamic psychological theories according to the methodology of Islamic psychology. This is to achieve psychological practice with valuable results; therefore, serious and strict consideration of the society's religious and cultural context is essential. A theory in psychology cannot endure outside the cultural and religious context of the society in which it originated, as the theory’s methodology and interpretations are formed through the societal structure defined by Islam and the culture emerging from its teachings.
