Abstract

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and peace and blessings be upon the noblest of all creation, our master and Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his companions. To proceed:

It is no secret to anyone concerned with childhood issues in the Arab world that child sexual abuse has become news that is neither shocking nor unusual in various media outlets and social media platforms. We need sociological criteria to determine whether this behavior has unfortunately become a widespread phenomenon or whether it still consists of isolated individual incidents occurring here and there.

There is no doubt that legal legislation in Arab countries exists and is well established; however, awareness, guidance, and both public and private counseling remain limited. The culture of shame, tribal concepts, notions of dishonor, and social stigma continue to prevent victims from reporting the crime, filing complaints against the perpetrator, and seeking proper treatment for the child who has been subjected to this heinous offense.

In this research, I aim to provide an overview of the problem of child sexual abuse, its behavioral and emotional indicators, and the resulting psychological, educational, and behavioral consequences for the abused child. The study also addresses how parents should respond when a child discloses such a crime, especially if the abuser is known to the family or is a family member.

The objective is to clarify the impact of this crime on the child’s psychological well-being, to explain appropriate ways for parents to deal with the situation—both in terms of avoiding harmful reactions and encouraging constructive ones—and to propose a therapeutic framework to help rescue the child from this crisis.
